On a rather ho-hum trip to school today God opened my eyes. To sunflowers. They were everywhere. Clumps of them flourished in sidewalk cracks, adorned cinderblock walls and dotted vacant lots. They were the only noticeable flowers blooming in some really tough environments.
I remembered a talk I had heard some years ago: "The Lord is My Light" which explained how young sunflowers follow the sun. From rising to setting. And this following is key to their health and productivity.
We believers have to be like the sunflower. We need to bask in God's Light from horizon to horizon. From wake until sleep. With our eye "single" to his glory we can flourish anywhere. Immune to rude comments, tawdry media, dingy and dirty surroundings. We can live with less than perfect figures, crying babies, tight budgets - even friendless and alone. We can glow with the golden radiance made possible only by His Holy Spirt - His Love, His Light. Just follow the Son.
